Centered Wednesdays pres Brett Rubin (LV)

CENTERED WEDNESDAYS presents,

BRETT RUBIN (Terrace Afterhours | Las Vegas)

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH, 2019

– BIO –

When Carl Cox, Disclosure, Claude VonStroke or Richie Hawtin descend behind the decks in Las Vegas, it’s Brett Rubin who’s called to set the night up proper. When Burning Man needs a DJ/producer to play peak time that can channel the energy of the crowd, Brett Rubin is on board. And when venues need an afterhours aficionado to keep the dancefloor going until after sunrise, Brett Rubin is the go-to veteran to build a party from the ground up.

A Chicago native, Brett Rubin spent his late teens digging in crates for electronic music at Gramaphone and other famous Windy City record shops. He experimented with it all, from house and trance to techno, nu disco and progressive. Since planting his roots in Las Vegas, Brett Rubin most enjoys seamlessly integrating different moods of house and tech. “I definitely draw from a wide variety of influences and I pride myself on my programming, meaning that I cater to the time of day, the venue, the crowd and—as weird as it sounds—what the crowd is under the influence of,” says Rubin of his nearly 20 years behind the decks. “Style-wise, I play everything from house, techno, tech house and deep, mostly on the deeper realm of things without being too fluffy and floaty,” he says. “It really depends on the time of day.”

Brett Rubin’s experience has earned him gigs from Miami to Portland as well as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Salt Lake City, plus playing at ADE, BPM, Electric Daisy Carnival, Groove Cruise and Minus Zero. He’s also been a staple at all the best underground parties in Sin City, including a residency at the infamous Empire Ballroom, playing with greats such as Nicole Moudaber, Seth Troxler, Guy Gerber, Danny Tenaglia and more for Sundown at Daylight, as well as launching the still-running Artisan Afterhours and now Terrace Afterhours. Keep an ear out for his latest productions in his sets as the multifaceted Brett Rubin brings his sounds to a party near you.

Rubin has performed at just about every major nightclub and pool club on the Las Vegas Strip, while being a staple of the afterhours scene. Rubin held residencies at Empire Ball Room and Seamless for 4 years before launching his own afterhours at the Artisan Boutique hotel which quickly became voted the number one afterhours in Las Vegas. Brett is co-creator and music director of Black Rock Syndicate, one of the premiere sound stages at each years Burning Man Festival. Brett also performs on some of the other main stages each year including Opulent Temple, and Distrikt.

Centered Wednesdays 1 Year Anniversary – DJ HELL

CENTERED WEDNESDAYS 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (PT 2)

WEDNESDAY, OCT 16TH 2019

~ DJ HELL ~

44 years old, 1 internationally successful record company, thousands of DJ gigs, 3 albums as an artist, 1 football coaching license, 4 renowned music awards, 1 Ford Mustang, 1 club. Can success be quantified? Probably. Can DJ Hell be quantified? No.

Even though the above mentioned figures are impressive, the Hell phenomenon isn’t explicable by numbers. But you can explain it by telling his life story. Born 1962 in the village of Altenmarkt, Upper Bavaria, Germany, Hell achieved a worldwide breakthrough without compromising, without bending himself in any way. After so many years as a DJ and label boss he is still cutting edge, still lives today, is still hipper than any twentysomething. A star DJ without an interest in drugs, an ardent supporter of the FC Bayern Munich
football team who collaborates with Donatella Versace, who adores his mum’s pork roast, kicked off the eighties revival almost singlehandedly and rocked just about every club from New York to Tokyo. All that in a single lifetime. That is DJ Hell.

It all started with Hell spinning records. First at the legendary Libella club, out in the country, where he was so innovative, so exciting that it only was a question of time before he moved on to nearby Munich. There he went through EBM and the initial stages of techno and by that time it was already him who influenced people rather than him being influenced. And that was noticed in other cities, other clubs. That’s how he got to see the world. The first releases came about in a flash: “My definition of house music“ – still valid today – and “Geteert und Gefedert” (“Tarred and Feathered“), the first album. He put a meaning to the terms serious, tough and minimal and when everybody had understood he moved on immediately. That’s why he founded his own label, International Deejay Gigolos, and started to release new and exciting music: Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Fischerspooner, Zombie Nation, Psychonauts, Terranova, all household names within the
international electronica community by now. Meanwhile he still found some time to work on his own artist career. “Munich Machine“ was a manifesto and love letter to a city he’d made his own, including the Barry Manilow cover version “Copa“, a massive hit. By 2000 it was time for his own club, out in the bavarian
countryside of course, the “Villa“. The people look different compared to a regular techno club, it is there that you begin to understand that innovation is a question of your state of mind and not your origin. Summer 2003 sees the release of his new album “N.Y. Muscle“. Fresh again, different again, re-inventing himself again. Hell collaborates with the legendary Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and with P. Diddy. All that in a single lifetime.
And then the infamous broadcast of the Love Parade 2000, Hell, towering above a million people.
Seeing, visualising, that is of enormous relevance to Hell. He managed to convey pure music as well as pure style during his twenty-five year DJ career. Quite understandable for someone who entered the stage during the era of punk and new wave. The individual look, the do-it-yourself approach, the elitism. That’s how it grew.
I am sure that if you asked him where the limit is, he simply wouldn’t understand.

Centered Wednesdays 1 Year Anniversary – Sydney Blu

CENTERED HAWAII 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY [KICKOFF],

WEDNESDAY OCT 2ND, 2019

~ SYDNEY BLU ~

Sydney Blu’s career can be considered a journey of evolvement. With tremendous passion for live performance, music production, and all-around artistic creativity, Sydney’s constant determination shines brightly through her accomplished Dj career. With beginnings in Toronto Canada and then 6 years in the United States touring the continent and the globe, all the way to her present life in Berlin Germany, Sydney’s dedication to live her life through her music is unbridled.
A proudly Canadian artist, Sydney’s success is largely attributed to her relentless touring schedule which she’s upheld for several years. In 2009, Sydney Blu founded her own imprint, Blu Music, on the principle of authentic, dancefloor-rich house and techno, the following year she extended her brand another branch introducing
her legendary Blu Party series which curates some of the greatest names of the underground house. On top of that, Sydney has released music on some of the most recognized labels in the industry including Knee Deep in Sound, VIVa Music, Desert Hearts Records, Mau5trap, and more.
Her release “Give It Up For Me” on Mau5trap Recordings was one of Beatport’s highest selling songs, earning Sydney the rank of first female electronic music producer to have a top 10 hit on the platform. Last year marked another milestone for the top-selling electronic artist, as she has currently hit Top 10 on the Beatport Progressive House Chart for her single “Escape” on Underground Audio UK and earlier in the year she hit Top 20 on the Beatport Tech House chart with her single “Mind Games” on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound. The song also was the top selling track on the labels Amsterdam Dance Event sampler and was premiered by Billboard Magazine. Sydney has also released released a run of solid releases on Roger Sanchez’s Undr the Rdr, Supernova’s Lapsus Music, Kerri Chandler’s MadTech Recordings, and was remixed by Italian techno heavy weight Pirupa. Looking forward, expect many new releases in 2019.
