His discography extends decades working with renowned musicians and producing dozens of albums, singles and remixes, from Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails (NIN), HIM, Stabbing Westward, White Zombie, Anthrax, Cradle of Filth, Swans, Prayers, Gravity Kills, Jesus Jones, Lush, Peter Murphy, Love and Rockets, Clan of Xymox, Yazoo, M/A/R/R/S, Modern English, Sarah McLachlan, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Die Krupps, Fields of the Nephilim, Dope Star, Angels and Agony, De/Vision and the list goes on. His credits as producer includes breakthrough albums, such as Depeche Mode’s debut, Speak and Spell (1980) and NIN’s Pretty Hate Machine (1989). Fryer also plays keyboards, strings and synthesizer for the goth-dream pop collective he co-founded with Ivo Watts-Russell called This Mortal Coil. This Mortal Coil was a unique collaboration of musicians recording in various permutations, some of which they covered classic songs created in the 70s and gave the haunting unparalleled signature sound of 4AD and This Mortal Coil such as Tim Buckley’s Songs to the Siren, Pearls Before Swine’ The Jeweler, Roy Harper’s Another Day, Chris Bell’s I am the Cosmos, Syd Barrett’s Late Night etc.. Together they also developed the Cocteau Twins’ unique ethereal and ambient sound.
Some of Fryer’s works that he produced were also featured in films and soundtracks such as Clerks (1994), Seven (1995) , Johnny Mnemonic (1995), Mortal Kombat (1995), Faust (2001), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Joyride (1997) David Lynch’s Lost Highway (1997), White Birds in a Blizzard (2014), Antonia Bird: From East Enders to Hollywood (2016) and many more.
In 2016, Fryer launched his musical project called Black Needle Noise. Black Needle Noise is a “musical soundscapes, audio alchemy, sonic sculptures” collaborating with numerous artists, some of which includes Bill Leebs (Front Line Assembly, Delerium) Jarboe (Swans) Elena Alice Fossi (Kirlian Camera, Spectra Paris) and more recently with Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks, KMFDM) and so much more.
Over the last nine years, Fryer has been Djing and touring cities in London, Oslo, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Tijuana, Houston, Portland, Santa Cruz, etc..
As a DJ, Fryer is known for his retrospective 4AD and Mute extravaganza of re-mastered and reimagined tracks designed specially and exclusively for clubs. His sets are strictly curated for venue and accessible LIVE only.
